2021 Transfer-to-Excellence Summer Research Internship

Date: June 11 – August 14, 2020

Location: UC Berkeley or remote

Application Deadline: January 31, 2021

What is the TTE REU Program? A 9-week program that introduces research to community college students who are motivated by science and engineering.  Research projects span a number of disciplines, including, but not limited to: bioengineering, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, and physics. Summer interns have the opportunity to join Berkeley researchers working in a collaborative and innovative environment.

 Internship Overview

  • Real-world experience: Work on challenging projects on cutting-edge energy research topics in energy
  • Summer salary: $3,600 stipend
  • Work in the San Francisco Bay Area: Travel to/from UC Berkeley, summer housing, and meals provided if appropriate during COVID-19 pandemic
  • Mentorship: Work one-on-one with UC Berkeley faculty, research mentors, and program staff
  • Professional development: Transfer preparation advising, STEM career seminars, guest speakers, and lab tours
  • Network: Meet other aspiring scientists and engineer from other California community colleges

Eligibility

  • 3.0 GPA or higher for science, engineering, and math courses
  • Enrolled in a California community college
  • Completed two calculus courses before June 2021
  • Completed three science or engineering courses, one of which has a laboratory component, before June 2021
  • Plan to return to a community college in Fall 2021
  • Plan to submit application to a 4-year institution to pursue a degree in science or engineering in Fall 2021 (For Fall 2022 start)
  • Unfortunately, international students utilizing F-1 of J-1 visas are not eligible for this program.
  • No prior research experience required
