The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley is awarding 100 scholarships for Latino students with a STEM major. They will be paying up to $30,000 per student over three years. For more information and to apply:

Internship/training program in business and technology

Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides young adults with hands-on skill development, corporate internships, an educational stipend ($44,000/year), and coursework eligible for college credit.
The program consists of training in technical and professional skills, followed by a 6-month internship with a top company.

Software QA Engineer speaks at Foothill

Richelle Limun graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. She is currently a QA Engineer at Twitch, which is based in San Francisco, CA. She has been with Twitch for the past 3 years, testing the Twitch app for different platforms, such as: PS4, Xbox One, Android and iOS.

Student Clubs

Computer Science Club
Come join us in our newly project-focused club! Gain team programming experience, which is vital to everyone who wishes to enter the field of software engineering. All experience levels and majors are welcome! This quarter we will be developing a virtual reality game using a VR headset, creating AI for a go-cart together with Engineering Club, and more! We meet Wednesdays from 3-5 pm in room 5602.

Women in STEM Club
Women in STEM Club supports female STEM students by providing mentor/mentee programs, networking connections, tips for STEM classes, professors, internships, or job opportunities. We collaborate with other STEM-related organizations and give several scholarship information. Students can also get motivated by STEM professional guest speakers/conferences, and get volunteer experience in STEM field!
This is not a girls-only club, and all genders are welcome for the purpose of supporting women in STEM! Also, non-STEM students are welcome if you want to support us or interested in STEM major.

Our weekly meeting is on every Friday from 12 to 1pm at the STEM center! Some delicious refreshments are always provided.

Foothill STEM Scholarships Available!

Apply now for one of the many science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarships available to Foothill College students. Scholarship recipients receive $1400 per quarter for up to six quarters, have first choice of internships, and are paired with Foothill STEM faculty members in a one-to-one mentorship program.
Applicants must:
  1. be a Foothill College STEM student during the 2016-17 academic year
  2. enroll in at least 12 units each quarter.
  3. have a GPA of 2.70 or higher at the time of application.
  4. have already completed Pre-Calculus OR must be enrolled in Pre-Calculus (Math 48A) or higher for Fall quarter 2016.
  5. and file a current FAFSA and demonstrate financial need.

CS Students needed for Nanotechnology Research

NuLEAF Technologies is a student volunteer group that is connected to NASA.  We seek to generate electricity from plants using nanotechnology, and are recruiting computer science students for our nano-simulations and IT teams.  The nano-simulations team will program a visual simulation to model chemical reactions on the nano-scale.  The IT team will create and maintain our website.  Benefits to joining our team include seminars where professionals lecture on STEM topics, and a mentorship network of industry professionals and professors.

The STEM Center is here to help you!

- "C.S. Topics" workshops, which cover rotating topics primarily of interest to 1A-1B and 2A-2B students, will run Thursdays Noon-1:30PM in Room 4202.

- "C.S. Topics" workshop for 1C/2C will be 2:30 - 4:00 PM on Thursdays, also in room 4202.  
We'll open up an online room during the workshops so remote students can participate.  We will use Zoom for these sessions,   Students should go to https://cccconfernow.zoom.us/j/9133646822 to participate online.

- The CS lab is fully staffed and will be open Monday - Thursday 10AM-5PM, Friday - Saturday 10AM-4PM.  This dedicated lab is in room 4204.  At other times, students can find CS tutors in the STEM center (except 8AM-9:30AM Monday and Wednesday)

- The online CS room will be open Sunday Noon to Midnight, and Monday-Thursday 8PM to Midnight.  Go to tinyurl.com/onlinecs to access the online classroom.
