Code2040 will be hosting virtual Info Sessions for our upcoming Paid Tech Summer Fellowship starting this Thursday, May 4 at 6 PM PT! 

This dynamic program is seeking Black & Latinx Computer Science students nationwide who are excited about shaping the future of tech with innovation and racial equity advocacy at the center. The fellowship includes paid internship experience ($1300/week minimum before taxes) at a top tech company, engaged mentorship from career professionals, workshops, networking, and much much more. Foothill Global Summit 2023, Friday, March 12, 2023, 10AM-1PM

My club, Women In STEM, has partnered with multiple clubs to invite experts and learn about the various challenges we face today and how we can participate in improving our future. The event is called Foothill Global Summit 2023 and with the theme of "Becoming Global Citizen," we will tackle many important issues such as global poverty, education, gender equality, climate change, and immigration. We anticipate that the relationships built on March 17th will continue and bear more fruits with further involvement from the students.

Here is the outline of the event.

Timeline: The event will be held in the Dining Hall (Building Number 2200)

10:00 - 10:10 Opening / Club Introductions

10:10 - 10:20 Presentation on Muwekma Ohlone tribe

10:20 - 11:50 Speaker's Individual Presentation

              about 10-15 min each + 3 min Q&A

11:50 - 12:10 Discussion / Q&A

12:10 - 13:00 Lunch / Fund the Future Events

I have attached an official poster for the event. The event will take place in the Dining Room (Building Number 2200). Lunch will be provided following the event, all vegan, Chinese food buffet style.

Many wonderful guest speakers have gratefully accepted our invitation and we hope that we will be able to fill in the dining hall with students. This will be a great opportunity for students to not only learn but also to find out how we can engage in our community. We will be grateful if you can promote this event and if possible, offer extra credits for participating students.

Foothill College's Science Learning Institute (SLI) provides work-based learning opportunities for students during the school year.

2022-23 School Year Opportunities

The Foothill Science Learning Institute STEM Micro-Internship program is a paid opportunity ($1300 stipend) for Foothill College students to work closely with a mentor from a local higher education institution in a short-term, discrete research project for the winter quarter (January 9 - March 24, 2023). The goals of the micro-internship are as follows: Foothill College students will

• Gain insight into what lab and institutional research entails.
• Work closely with a mentor to explore academic and professional goals.
• Gain research skills such as reading scientific articles, analyzing data, benchwork, and researching databases.

Mentors are recruited from local universities such as Stanford, San Jose State, and UC Santa Cruz and are graduate students, post doctorate fellows, and staff who have all made a commitment to mentor a student for a quarter (11 weeks), supporting them in a short-term research project that relates to their work.

Through SLI, Foothill College students will have an opportunity to engage in an internship either in research or industry, under the guidance of a mentor/ supervisor. Institutions and companies include biotech startups, Stanford University, San Jose State University, and other tech companies in the Bay Area. There are opportunities in the areas of Computer Science, Machine learning, Data Science, etc.
